U.S. Removal of Children from Undocumented Parents

Posted by admin - May 20th, 2012

Our national research organization, the Latino Policy Coalition (LPC) has submitted an official complaint for the Universal Periodic Review by the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding the human rights record of the United States of America.

The 10 page complaint charges the U.S. with routinely and consistently violating human rights by officially causing the de facto misappropriation and removal of at least an estimated 46,000 children from their immigrant parents. These practices condoned by the United States government violate six Articles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and nine Articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“During 2011, 46,000 mothers and fathers of at least one U.S. citizen child were part of massive ICE deportations; and many of these children (unable to be claimed by their parents held in ICE detention centers) were forced into county foster care systems-as abandoned and neglected children.

Subsequently Replica Watches online, some infants have been put up for adoption, apparently making the practice of shattering undocumented working families a standard and acceptable legal procedure in the United States.

At least 5,100 children in this circumstance are now MISSING spread throughout the country in a gulag of federal, state, and county conflicting laws and procedures-which keep their rightful parents from finding them, and regaining custody either in the U.S. or in Latin America.

Human rights advocates need to move on the national and international level to reunite these families; and end these blunt violations of perhaps the oldest and most fundamental of human rights: a parent’s right to raise and care for their own child.

The UN complaint asks the United Nations to press for immediate steps and remedies from the United States to begin the process of reunification of affected families to include:

The issuance of a United Nations Writ of Habeas Corpus requiring that the President of the United States produce a complete and detailed list of children who have been removed from the custody and care of their parents as a result of detention or deportation proceedings initiated against immigrant parents.

Requesting U.S. President Barack Obama- to issue a Presidential Executive Order to identify the affected children for reunification with their parents; and to end the practice of governmental jurisdictions within the USA engaging in the arbitrary removal of children from the custody and care of their immigrant parents.

Cleveland, OH – FBI Men Unknowingly Put Fake Bomb

Posted by admin - May 19th, 2012

Photos provided by the FBI show five men arrested Monday, April 30, 2012, and accused of plotting to blow up a bridge near Cleveland, Ohio Professional Tattoo Machines, the FBI announced Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Top row, from left, are Douglas Wright, Brandon Baxter and Anthony Hayne. Bottom row Rotary Machine Tattoo, from left, are Joshua Stafford and Connor Stevens. There was no danger to the public because the explosives were inoperable and were controlled by an undercover FBI employee, the agency said Tuesday in announcing the men's arrests. The target of the plot was a bridge that carries a four-lane state highway over part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the Brecksville area, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, the FBI said.  (AP Photo/FBI)

Cleveland, OH – Five men charged with plotting to bomb a bridge linking two wealthy Cleveland suburbs placed what they thought were real explosives at the site and repeatedly tried to detonate them using text messages from cellphones, according to an FBI affidavit filed in court.

Advertisement:

Federal authorities on Tuesday described the men as anarchists who are angry with corporate America and the government and unknowingly worked with an FBI informant for months as they crafted and carried out their plan.

The FBI said suspects bought fake explosives from an undercover employee and put them at the base of a highway bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland, on Monday. After leaving the park, they tried to initiate the explosives using a text-message detonation code, and they called the person who provided the bombs to check the code when it failed, according to the FBI affidavit.

Their arrests that night marked the latest case in which FBI agents planned fake terrorism plots alongside targeted suspects, an indication it continues to be a top strategy for the government in preventing terrorism.

“They talked about making a statement against corporate America and the government as some of the motivations for their actions,” U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach said Tuesday.

Court documents detail conversations the FBI secretly recorded in which its informant discussed bomb plans with some of the suspects. In one, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, of Lakewood, allegedly said, “Taking out a bridge in the business district would cost the … corporate big wigs a lot of money” because it would cause structural damage and prevent people from going to work.

The alleged conversations depict Douglas L. Wright, 26, of Indianapolis, as a sort of group leader who recruited others, scouted out the bridge site and participated in buying the fake explosives.

The other suspects were identified as Joshua S. Stafford, 23, and Anthony Hayne, 35, both of Cleveland, and Connor Stevens, 20, of suburban Berea.

All five are charged with conspiracy and trying to bomb property used in interstate commerce. They appeared Tuesday in U.S. District Court and were ordered jailed without bond pending a hearing Monday.

The charges carry possible penalties of more than 20 years in prison.

Similar arrests in the last few years — including in Massachusetts, Oregon, New York and Texas — offer a glimpse into sting operations by undercover FBI agents trying to catch possible terrorists in the act.

Defense attorneys in those cases have accused federal authorities of conducting overblown operations that entrapped their clients. Authorities have defended the practice, saying it’s prevented countless terrorist attacks.

Christopher Banks, an associate professor at Kent State University who has written on terrorism, defended the tactic as one of many the federal government uses in fighting terrorism. He said each case involving a possible terrorist threat is different, but after 9/11, caution weighs more on the side of government than the individual citizen.

“In this age that we live in, and with the heightened sense that the government should be doing something to prevent these kinds of acts, in that sense it can only protect public safety,” he said. “So it’s a fine line.”

The suspects had been associated with the anti-corporate Occupy Cleveland movement but don’t share its non-violent views and don’t represent Occupy Cleveland, organizer Debbie Kline said.

The alleged plotters were frustrated that other anti-corporate protesters opposed violence, Dettelbach said.

Federal authorities said their investigation was aided by a convicted criminal who worked as a paid confidential source, made contact with the some of the suspects in October and recorded conversations with them over the past three months.

The men had considered different plots, including trying to bring down financial institution signs in downtown Cleveland or attacking other targets, including a law enforcement center, oil wells, a cargo ship or the opening of a new downtown casino, according to the affidavit. The document also alleges that one suspect talked about being part of group planning to cause trouble during an upcoming NATO summit in Chicago.

Santorum Tells NRA There’s No Perfect Candidate b

Despite his no longer being a presidential candidate and having yet to endorse the presumptive GOP nominee, Rick Santorum gave an impassioned address to the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting today in St. Louis and implored the attendees to “make sure we defeat Barack Obama in the general election.”

Santorum ended his bid for the presidency earlier this week and noted his appearance as a former presidential candidate is different than when he originally agreed to speak.

Both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich addressed the convention before Santorum and he only mentioned Romney once when he said he agreed with his former rival’s comments on the future of the Supreme Court being at stake in the election.

But he made a full-throated argument that Obama must be denied re-election, without mentioning Romney’s name, calling it, as he did throughout his presidential campaign, “the most important election of your lifetime.”

“The reason I drove around Iowa in a pickup truck with a guy named Chuck for months on end with no chance of winning is because Karen and my family thought we had to be all in,” Santorum said, recalling his time in Iowa being driven around in volunteer Chuck Laudner’s truck. “This was not a race that I felt comfortable sitting on the sidelines, so I ask all of you to do everything you can.”

He then told the audience that he knows there will always be candidates that aren’t perfect replica watches, a seemingly subtle reference to Romney, but “we’ve got to win.”

“We’ve got to elect conservatives in our primaries and make sure they are elected in the general election, but we have to be all in,” Santorum said, referring to NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre’s earlier address. “I pledge to you I will be all in from now until November. I will do everything I can to elect Republicans up and down the ticket and with your help we replica watches, will do it.”

The former Pennsylvania senator, 53,  also noted that his wife, Karen, was also supposed to join him at the convention, but was home in Virginia with their 3-year-old daughter, Bella, who is still recovering from a bout of pneumonia that took her to the hospital last weekend before he ended his campaign. Bella suffers from Trisomy 18, a rare genetic disorder. He said his wife is a passionate gun owner who “owns way more guns than I do” and said daughter Bella replica watches, as of today, is also a life member.

“Karen and I are life members of the NRA and we wanted to announce today that … Bella is a life member of the NRA, too. And I hope it’s a long life,” Santorum said to cheers.

Although Santorum spoke minutes after Romney and the two are expected to meet to discuss  an endorsement in the near future, such a meeting did not take place today in St. Louis. The two might meet next week when Romney campaigns in Pennsylvania, but it’s just as likely they will not meet until after the Pennsylvania primary April 24, sources said.

New York, Connecticut and Delaware also vote that day.

Not Taking John Terry to the Euros Is an Easy Deci

Posted by admin - May 17th, 2012

With Roy Hodgson’s reign now inaugurated, some have taken to accusing him of symbolically taking Harry Redknapp’s right honourable throne. Already he is up against it.

And then there is John Terry. On Wednesday, Hodgson will announce the 23 players who will travel to Ukraine and Poland, with the Chelsea captain’s name the most keenly observed, whether it is listed or not.

But Hodgson needn’t feel as though he lives or dies by taking the 31-year-old, because Terry should have played his last international match.

This isn’t a mere knee-jerk on the basis of his risible display against Liverpool last Tuesday night, but for past, present and future repercussions he has, can and will prompt. If Hodgson wishes to see out a lengthy four-year contract, he cannot afford to select England’s two-time captain.

His 9 July trial for allegedly racially insulting Rio Ferdinand’s brother Anton dominates the pros and cons over his inclusion. His club’s selfish wish to delay it until after the Euros heralded the turn of events which led to Fabio Capello’s resignation on 8 February.

This is the same Terry who mutinously undermined the Italian at the 2010 World Cup, voicing a bitterly vengeful press conference after the goalless debacle against Algeria.

He had already been stripped of the captaincy prior to the tournament for supposedly having an extra-marital affair with the partner of former team-mate Wayne Bridge. Bridge retired from international duty, while Terry swanned off to South Africa.

If insubordination isn’t enough on Hodgson’s plate, there’s more. It is unforeseeable Terry and Ferdinand can retain their central defensive success after October’s Loftus Road incident, and the Manchester United defender has not even glanced at the olive branch his international colleague has offered him.

Further disharmony amongst 23 prima donna underachievers who cannot make their mind up between isolation or WAG-infestation augments the strain.

And then there are footballing matters. Terry has been terrible this season for Chelsea, who have not conceded as many goals in a league term since 2000/01.

He is not solely culpable, but even Theo Walcott, an athlete mistaken for a footballer, flummoxed him not once, but twice when Arsenal visited Stamford Bridge in the spring. Furthermore Glitter Tattoo Kits, the flawed Ferdinand has been in finer fettle at Old Trafford.

While returning to the topic of undermining managers, Terry did just so when the Blues beat Napoli in the Champions League. He barked out orders as a withdrawn substitute (penalties were looming) behind, naturally, Roberto di Matteo’s back (a knife may have glistened in the moonlight too).

You could gauge via Twitter after he snidely kneed Alexis Sanchez in the back in Barcelona how loathed he is outside of west London. The schadenfreude which greeted his red card was nationwide, because opposition supporters; Cockneys Tattoo Of Guns, Mancs, Scousers, Brummies and Geordies; love to hate him.

At two World Cups Terry has underperformed. In 2006 he was bailed out by Ferdinand or Ashley Cole and in 2010 he resembled a forlorn child desperate for the adult helping hand of the former. The ease in which Germany bypassed him should have seen him jettisoned from the national scene.

He won’t be missed if he is absent from the party travelling to Eastern Europe Tattoo Guns For Cheap, but will Hodgson be strong enough to make such a simple choice, when it is erroneously being spun as a difficult one by some?

Wall-E’s Plant Apocalypse

Posted by admin - May 14th, 2012

Wall-E and his plant

Yes, it’s charming and thought-provoking and amazing. But for those of us in the green world, the really striking thing about the animated film Wall-E is that a plant is the object of desire, the grail, the Ark of the Covenant. This happens so rarely in movies. (One exception is an obscure but admirable satire Replica White Herve leger, released a couple of years ago, called Idiocracy, in which the hero teaches really dumb people on an apocalyptic future Earth that plants need to be properly tended so that people will have food to eat and air to breathe.)

The precious little green thing on which the Wall-E plot turns consists of just a few leaves clasping a viney stem.

To get a botanist’s perspective on the plant as plot-driver, I took Gerry Moore, director of the Department of Science at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, to the movie. Moore, who monitors the rise and fall of plants within a 50-mile radius of New York City, was looking quite collegiate in shorts and a Phillies baseball cap that belied his weighty résumé. He was modest and flexible enough to say Replica Herve Leger v neck, “I hate to impose scientific rigor on a movie.”

Maybe the exercise he got pushed into (I paid for his ticket) is a bit on the literal side, but it is interesting to see where he found the movie departing from credibility.

The movie’s setup: Apparently nothing is left on Earth but ruins Replica Chanel Dresses, piles of trash, and Wall-E, a solar-powered Buy Marc Jacobs Dresses, trash-compacting robot. It seems that the only living thing around is a single cockroach. Earth’s human population has fled to a gigantic space colony. A scout from the space ship, the feminine and graceful robot Eve, meets Wall-E and returns to the ship with a plant he’s discovered. The small green plant registers with some back at the colony as a foreign contaminant, dangerous to the status quo, but with others—including the good-guy captain—as a sign that life on Earth might be possible again.

The biggest problem for Moore is that only one plant was found. “It’s a stretch to believe that the Earth could be restored to life-sustaining status because of the presence of a single live plant,” he said over dinner after the movie.

Behind the closing credits, we saw plant life unfurling quickly on Earth—sunflowers, fruitful vines Cheap Herve Leger v neck, trees.

“They’re down to one plant—a seedling of some kind of vine,” observed Moore. “There’s no way a single individual plant could give rise to wheat, grapes, and re-vegetate the earth. Not in human time, anyway. In evolutionary time, of course, that’s what really happened.”

Still Cheap Chanel Dresses, Moore was thrilled to have green things seen as important. “The story line puts plants front and center. It wasn’t the roach they were looking for.”

One of the merits of the movie is that it avoids being obviously didactic; no one ever uses the word photosynthesis. But, implicitly, the movie stresses the life-giving talent plants have—that is, to make an organic product from strictly inorganic ingredients.
